SBU detains head of Customs Clearance Department of Kyiv-Southwest customs post on taking bribe
The SBU detained a corrupt head of the Customs Clearance Department of a Kyiv-Southwest customs post.
The SBU officers established that the official demanded USD 1,500 from a businessman for “green light” during the customs clearance of goods from a East Asian country. The SBU officers documented taking of a bribe.
Law enforcement officers detained the official after taking the second part of the bribe (USD 1,200).
The information on extortion from other importing companies by the official is being checked.
The issues of serving a notice of suspicion to the detainee of taking a bribe, removing him from the office and choosing the custody as a type of detention are being settled.
The operation was conducted by the SBU Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the Main Directorate of the State Bureau of Investigations under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
