Ternopil region: SBU detains corrupt head of SFS department

The Security Service of Ukraine detained the head of the operational division of the Main Department of the State Fiscal Service (SFS) in Ternopil region for bribe-taking.

Allegedly, the official together with a subordinate unit head extorted USD 37,000 from a local businessman. For this sum, the suspects promised to re-qualify the case of alleged non-payment of taxes to a less severe article of the Criminal Code.

The law enforcement officers detained both suspects in Ternopil immediately after receiving the entire sum of bribe, in accordance with the Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine.

The investigation is ongoing under Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issues of serving the detainees notices of suspicion and choosing form of detention are being settled.

The operation was carried out jointly with the investigators of the State Bureau of Investigations, under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office, with the assistance of the Main Department of Internal Security of the SFS of Ukraine.
