SSU detains russian militant who fired at civilians in Kherson region

The SSU and the AFU special forces have carried out a large-scale special operation in the temporarily occupied part of the south of Ukraine.

As a result of these joint efforts, a militant of the ‘dnr’ terrorist organization, who fought against Ukraine in the russian army, was located and detained.

The individual abused, threatened to kill and fired at local residents.

The detainee has been notified of suspicion of crime under Article 438.1 of the CCU (violation of laws and customs of war). Court has chosen custody as a measure of restraint.

According to the investigation, the militant is a resident of Zhdanivka, Donetsk region, who in 2014 voluntarily joined the illegal armed groups controlled by the aggressor state. Later, he received a ‘passport’ from the local occupation administration.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the man was ‘seconded’ to the 3rd rifle platoon of the 1st company of the 5th battalion of the 109th regiment of the ‘dnr people’s militia’.

Serving in that unit, he took an active part in military operations against the Defenсe Forces on Kherson direction.

In addition, the SSU established that the militant had fired at civilians to force them to confess to involvement in the activity of Ukrainian partisans or reconnaissance and sabotage groups.

The investigation is ongoing within the criminal proceedings opened under Articles 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law) and 438.1 (violation of laws and customs of war) of the CCU.

The SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security exposed, detained and documented the offender jointly with investigators of the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of Dnipropetrovsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
