SSU detains russian agent who rented apartment near airfield in Kyiv region to spy on Ukrainian aircraft

The SSU’s cyber units have detained another FSB agent who collected intelligence on Ukraine’s Defence Forces and critical infrastructure in Kyiv region.

The perpetrator was trying to identify locations of the AFU aviation, directions and intensity of flights of Ukrainian military aircraft.

To gather intelligence, the enemy agent stayed for several days in a rented apartment near a local airfield.

He also tried to establish geolocations of Ukraine’s air defence systems and find out if the enemy strikes had hit energy facilities.

The SSU detained the suspect ‘red-handed’ when he was conducting reconnaissance near a power generating enterprise in Kyiv.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is an 18-year-old Kyiv resident. Several months ago, he was recruited remotely by an FSB officer, already identified by the SSU.

The individual’s activity on pro-kremlin Telegram channels brought him to the occupiers’ attention.

Communication with the russian handler was carried out via an anonymous chat in a messenger app.

For performing enemy assignments, the traitor received money from the FSB, which was transferred to his bank card.

During the searches of the suspect’s apartment, the SSU seized a mobile phone and a computer with evidence of his communication with the russian service, as well as his bank card.

SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
