Luhansk region: SSU detains former militant seeking Ukrainian pension
In Luhansk region, the SSU Counterintelligence detained a former member of illegal armed formations of the so-called LNR. The suspect attempted to cross to government-controlled territory to register for a pension.
The individual was a member of a group that took an active part in hostilities against the ATO forces in the vicinity of Luhansk and Bakhmutka highway.
According to the investigation, the offender is a local who joined the militants in May 2015. He was engaged in equipment maintenance and construction of fortifications.
The militant left the formation due to a conflict with the leaders, who made their subordinates pay ‘tribute’. After that, he was hiding in the temporarily occupied part of Luhansk region.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion of participation in unlawful armed groups (Article 260.2 of the CCU). The court is to decide on the measure of restraint.
The law enforcement are verifying the militant’s involvement in other serious and especially serious crimes.
The SSU Main Directorate in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the operation together with the National Police under the supervision of Starobilsk District Prosecutor’s Office of Luhansk region.
