Luhansk region: SSU detains arms dealer and uncovers cache of artillery shells

The SSU is dedicated to combating illicit trafficking in weapons. In a special operation in Luhansk region, a previously convicted criminal was detained in an attempt to sell explosives and grenades.

The items seized from the detainee included:

  • over 0.5 kg of TNT,
  • 4 RGD-5 and F-1 grenades,
  • a detonator.

According to findings, a resident of Stanytsia Luhanska, previously convicted for a serious crime, tried to establish a firearms trafficking channel. He searched for clients among people with criminal background.

In addition to that, in Luhansk region the SSU uncovered a weapons cache of an IAF of the so-called LNR.

The seized inventory included over 60 artillery shells of 30 mm caliber and nearly 1,700 rounds for small arms.

The SSU discovered the cache acting upon operational intelligence. It was equipped near a pumping station on the bank of the Siversky Donets.

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of illegal activity and bring the culprits to justice.

The SSU Main Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the operation together with the National Police and the State Emergency Service under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
