Lviv region: SSU detains russian agent who adjusted enemy missile strikes on strategic enterprises of Ukraine

As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Lviv region, the SSU Counterintelligence exposed another FSB agent.

The enemy accomplice is an engineer of one of the state enterprises located in the East of Ukraine.

After the start of the full-scale aggression, the man was recruited by the russian special service to conduct sabotage and reconnaissance against Ukraine.

At first, on the enemy’s instructions, the traitor collected intelligence on location of strategic facilities in the south-eastern regions of Ukraine.

The agent also offered the aggressor state his assistance in developing a radar installation basing on information on a Ukrainian radar.

Under the guise of a ‘business trip’, the agent travelled to Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia to identify energy facilities and railway infrastructure, on which the enemy carried out missile strikes.

On the sites, he was to inspect their technical condition, the level of possible damage and prepare a ‘report’ for the FSB.

His next ‘trip’ was to Lviv region, where he tried to identify the location of critical infrastructure facilities.

The obtained information was to be sent to the enemy as electronic coordinates and georeferenced photos.

Occupiers needed this intelligence to prepare and carry out a series of targeted missile strikes on the territory of the oblast.

However, the SSU Counterintelligence timely exposed the agent, documented his criminal activities and detained him on an attempt to transmit classified information to the aggressor.

During the search, the SSU found symbols of the communist totalitarian regime and a mobile phone with evidence of communication with the enemy.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under the Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason);
  • 436-2.2, 436-2.3 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

Court chose custody without right to bail as a measure of restraint for the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out by the Counterintelligence unit and investigators of the SSU Lviv Office jointly with the SSU Counterintelligence under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
