SSU detains enemy informant who passed intelligence to occupiers to help russian reconnaissance groups breach Ukrainian border in Sumy region

The SSU has detained a supporter of ruscism who passed information to the enemy on locations of Ukrainian Defence Forces in the areas of Sumy oblast bordering russia.

The aggressor was particularly interested in data on deployment of the AFU and the State Border Guard Service units, which protect Sumy and the north-eastern border.

The invaders needed the intelligence to conduct targeted air attacks on Ukrainian positions and, possibly, prepare a ‘breakthrough’ of russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups into the region.

However, the SSU derailed such ‘plans’ by timely exposing the informant, documenting her criminal actions and detaining the suspect.

The traitor is a woman, a pro-russian resident of Sumy district, who posted her anti-Ukrainian messages in the banned social network Odnoklassniki.

Her pro-russian content attracted the attention of russian intelligence services, which then recruited her remotely.

If she successfully fulfilled enemy assignments, the occupiers promised her russian citizenship and a ‘prospect’ of moving to russia.

To gather intelligence, the agent went to the target area on public transport and covertly observed Ukrainian facilities.

The informant also used her acquaintances: she asked them under false pretenses about ‘news’ on Ukrainian soldiers in the border area, and they unwittingly provided some information.

The enemy asset passed the collected data to rucsists through a messenger app.

During the searches, the SSU seized a mobile phone with evidence of the woman’s crimes against Ukraine.

SSU investigators have notified the detained enemy accomplice of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 114-2.2 (unauthorized dissemination of information on movement or deployment of the AFU or other lawful military formations, committed under martial law);
  • 436-2.2 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

The court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect, who is facing up to 8 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.

The SSU Sumy Office carried out the counter-sabotage operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
