SBU detains organizer of drug gang selling cocaine smuggled from Latin America

The SBU disrupted an interregional drug group selling cocaine. During a special operation in the city of Rivne, a leader of the group was detained while trying to sell a batch of drugs. The offender resisted law enforcement officers and tried to escape from the scene.

According to the investigation, members of the group set up a channel for smuggling cocaine from Latin America to Ukraine. They planned to sell drugs in bulk in Rivne and Volyn regions. The offenders searched for their clients through personal contacts, in particular among criminals.

During searches of offenders’ residences and offices, law enforcement officers seized:

  • a batch of drugs prepared for sale;
  • 3 firearms;
  • jamming devices;
  • illegally obtained money.

SBU investigators served the group organizer with a suspicion notice for preparation for smuggling and illegal sale of drugs.

Investigative actions are ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the offense and prosecute all involved individuals.

The operation was conducted by officers of the SBU Office in Rivne region under the supervision of the Rivne Region Prosecutor's Office.
