SSU detains mobilization evasion scheme organizer already under investigation for illegal migration
The SSU has shut down another three schemes of draft evasion and illegal departure of conscription-aged men abroad.
As a result of operations in several regions of Ukraine, organizers of the schemes have been detained.
For money, they helped draft dodgers to flee abroad outside checkpoints or evade conscription using fake documents.
The cost of ‘services’ reached EUR 15,000, depending on the urgency and method.
In Bukovyna:
A repeat offender from Chernivtsi district has been detained. The individual is already under investigation for organizing an illegal migration channel.
After the earlier offence, the court chose a non-custodial measure of restraint for the suspect.
Taking advantage of this, the man continued to advertise his ‘services’ in a messenger app, offering potential conscripts his assistance in escaping to the EU.
Then, he met his ‘clients’, drove them to the border in his car and showed forest paths to the neighboring state.
In Zakarpattia region:
A local resident was detained for smuggling men to the EU across the border river.
To overcome the water obstacle, he laid a route for the evaders in places with shallow water.
On the other bank, the men were met by other participants of the criminal scheme, who helped the ‘newcomers’ to legalize in a foreign state.
In Kharkiv region:
A local dealer selling fake documents certifying deregistration from the military register has been exposed.
The law enforcement documented episodes when evaders tried to mislead Territorial Recruitment Centers by presenting the counterfeit documents issued by the forger.
Investigations to establish all the circumstances of the crimes and bring the involved to justice are underway.
The operations were carried out jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of regional prosecutor’s offices.
