Luhansk region: SBU detains organizer of fake referendum

The SBU identified and detained the organizer of fake referendum on the creation of so-called LNR. For a long time, the woman hid from justice in Russia.

Allegedly, she took an active part in the preparation and holding of "referendum" in the city of Popasna. The offender headed the so-called election commission.

She selected candidates for “polling station commissions”, coordinated their activities, organized the delivery of ballots and monitored the voting process. After, the woman supervised counting of votes and sending the "ballots" to the city of Luhansk.

After ATO forces released the city of Popasna, the offender escaped to Russia.

SBU investigators served her a suspicion notice in absentia of encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine. The woman was put on wanted list.

Due to a well-planned special operation, the SBU officers managed to make her to arrive to Ukraine where she was detained.

Urgent investigative actions are underway under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office. Involvement in other crimes to the detriment of state security is being checked.

In addition, the SBU served a suspicion notice of trespass against territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine to the former deputy of Zolote City Council. In May 2014, he managed the "election commission" to hold a fake referendum in the city.

SBU officers searched the suspect's residence and found "ballots".

The offender is hiding in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region. He is wanted nationwide.

Currently, SBU operatives and investigators have identified the main organizers of the unconstitutional event in Popasna and Zolote cities. Most of them have already been sentenced.

Since the beginning of 2020, in the Luhansk region, the SBU has searched for and prosecuted 10 criminals, previously wanted for committing crimes against the Ukrainian state security.
