SSU detains businessman who tried to bribe SSU officer in Bukovyna

In Chernivtsi, the SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security detained a head of a construction company who tried to bribe an officer of the SSU.

According to the investigation, the suspect’s company carried out contract work on the territory of a military unit in the region.

To get into the facility with restricted access, the construction workers had to undergo appropriate checks, which is the SSU’s responsibility.

However, the contractor wanted to arrange free access to the military unit for his workers, without any verifications.

To ‘solve the issue’, the entrepreneur offered USD 5,000 to an officer of the SSU’s local unit.

The SSU officer immediately reported the ‘offer’ to his superiors.

The criminal actions of the corrupt contractor were documented, and he was detained ‘red-handed’ when handing over the bribe.

The detained company head was served a notice of suspicion under Article 369.3 of the CCU (offering, promising or giving an unlawful benefit to an official).

The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is facing up to 8 years in prison.

The operation was carried out jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Chernivtsi Region Defence Prosecutor’s Office.
