SSU detains russian agent couple who guided Grad rockets at border areas in Sumy region
The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented a new series of russian attacks on the border areas of Sumy region.
As a result of a special operation, the SSU detained red-handed a couple of russian agents who were preparing attacks on the AFU units defending the north-eastern borders of Ukraine.
According to findings, the occupiers planned to use various types of weapons, including BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launchers.
In order to adjust the enemy attacks, the suspects had to establish the locations of Ukrainian troops and pass their coordinates to the invaders.
SSU officers exposed the aggressor's plan at the initial stage of russian agents' intelligence activity.
As a result, the SSU took comprehensive measures to secure the AFU positions and detain both offenders when they were conducting additional reconnaissance near the potential target.
According to the investigation, the couple of unemployed locals cooperated remotely with the russian intelligence service through an anonymous chat in a messenger.
To fulfill the enemy's task, the traitors drove around the border, where they monitored the positions of the Defense Forces.
During the search, the SSU seized the detainees' mobile phones, which they used to mark the AFU geolocation on Google maps.
SSU investigators have served both offenders a notice of suspicion under Art. 28.2, 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).
The offenders are in custody facing life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Sumy region under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office.
