SSU detains police officer forging criminal proceedings
The SSU jointly with the State Bureau of Investigation and the National Police exposed a corruption scheme in one of the units of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernivtsi region.
As a result of the operation, the head of one of the regional district police departments was detained.
The official extorted EUR 40 thousand from a local resident for not bringing her to criminal responsibility and closing the case of tax evaders.
The SSU and SBI officers documented that the official received the first part of the bribe in the amount of EUR 10 thousand.
The law enforcement detained the offender in Chernivtsi prior to receiving the second part of the bribe.
Given the collected evidence, the detainee was served a notice of suspicion under Part 5 of Art. 27, Part 4 of Art. 368 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit committed in a particularly large amount by an official).
A custody was chosen as a measure of restraint against the offender.
According to the CCU, the sanction provides for a sentence of up to 12 years of imprisonment with forfeiture of property.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. In particular, the involvement of the management of the regional unit of the National Police in the corruption scheme is being checked.
The operation was carried out by the SSU in Kyiv and Kyiv region jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office.
