SSU detains Odesa court official who tipped off criminals about planned searches

The SSU prevented a large-scale leak of restricted information in one of Odesa district courts.

As a result of the operation, the SSU detained an assistant judge, who set up a mechanism of selling classified information about executing procedural steps.

For money, he offered to warn suspects in criminal proceedings about the law enforcement’s planned investigative actions, including searches.

In this way, the offenders could destroy material evidence of crimes and hide from justice.

The cost of ‘services’ ranged from USD 100 to 1,000, which depended on the importance of the case and timing of procedures.

The official’s main ‘clients’ were members of organized criminal groups under investigation.

The court employee obtained the restricted information from motions of the law enforcement agencies to obtain permissions for investigative actions.

The SSU documented the offence and detained the perpetrator on an attempt to hand over classified data.

The detainee has been notified of suspicion under the Article 369-2.3 of the CCU (abuse of influence).

The suspect is facing up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the involved to justice.

The SSU Office in Odesa Region carried out the operation jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
