SSU exposes official of military enlistment office in Poltava oblast on taking bribes for helping men evade military service
The SSU has detained a corrupt employee of Myrhorod Recruitment and Social Support Centre in Poltava region who for bribes ‘helped’ men evade military service.
For USD 6,000, the man issued documents that allowed his ‘clients’ to cross Ukraine’s state border.
The SSU and the National Police apprehended the official red-handed when he was handing over a fake certificate to a person who had paid for it.
According to the investigation, the suspect was in collusion with other employees of Myrhorod and Lubny territorial recruitment and social support centres in Poltava oblast. With their help, he looked for ‘clients’ and prepared documents for the men’s unhindered departure abroad.
First, the offenders arranged obtaining of a conclusion of a military medical commission on unfitness for military service based on a bogus diagnosis, and then a man was removed from the military register altogether.
Investigators have established that the official had previously helped his acquaintances evade mobilization.
During the searches at the suspect’s home and office, as well as at several district military registration and enlistment offices, the law enforcement found documents confirming the offences, a significant amount of cash and several dozen packages of documents for potential draft evaders.
The investigation is underway.
The detainee will be served a notice of suspicion under Article 332.3 of the CCU (illegal transfer of persons across Ukraine’s state border). Court is to decide on a measure of restraint.
The SSU Office in Poltava region exposed the offender jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Poltava Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Region.
