SSU detains Kharkiv university official who helped ruscists find weaknesses in city’s defence

As a result of a special operation in Kharkiv region, the SSU detained another enemy agent ‘red-handed’.

At night, the perpetrator was conducting reconnaissance of the frontline area in Balakliya district, where she tried to identify and photograph possible locations of the AFU units.

According to the investigation, the agent is an engineer from one of the region’s technical universities who was helping the occupiers collect intelligence on Kharkiv’s defence.

The aggressor was focusing its intelligence-gathering efforts on Ukrainian air defence systems, fortifications, checkpoints and armoured vehicles, as well as routes of movement of Ukrainian weapons in the direction of Kupiansk.

The enemy agent drove around the frontline area in her car and covertly took pictures of the Defence Forces locations.

She used a messenger app to transmit the data to her russian ‘liaison’ - a militant of the occupation groupings of russia’s Southern military district, fighting near Kupiansk.

The woman also provided the intelligence to the administrator of a russian Telegram channel, created in December 2022 to collect data on the AFU.

The invaders needed the information to plan and prepare combat, sabotage and reconnaissance operations in the region.

According to the investigation, the university official started cooperating with the enemy at the beginning of the full-scale war.

She came to the attention of russian intelligence as an ideological supporter of ruscism, who in conversations with her friends praised the kremlin and justified missile strikes on Ukraine.

SSU investigators have now served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on sending, movement of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU).

The suspect is in custody without the right to be released on bail. She faces life imprisonment.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Rivne Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
