SSU detains fugitive pro-Russian propagandist for calls to split Ukraine
SSU detained a pro-Russian propagandist in Boryspil. He is a member of a group of online instigators spreading Russian propaganda in Ukraine. The criminal activities were exposed in the summer of 2020, but having received a suspicion notice the offender fled and hid from the investigation.
All the time, the offender conducted malign campaign on YouTube and through Telegram channels.
He instigated to violate state borders and create pseudo-state entities in some regions of Ukraine. The offender took part in Russian influence TV videos, made at the request of certain anti-Ukrainian political forces and NGOs.
He was involved in a group of online agents exposed by SSU last year. All three members of the group: an organizer, resident of Luhansk, a YouTube administrator and an editor of a pro-Russian website were served suspicion notices for financing of actions committed for the purpose of forcible change or overthrow of the constitutional order or seizure of state power, change of borders of the territory or state border of Ukraine.
To remind, the said group prepared and disseminated online posts inciting ethnic hatred.
During searches of group participants’ residences, law enforcement officers seized:
- scenarios of malign campaigns and implementation reports;
- money provided by Russian sponsors;
- data storage devices proving illegal activity and forbidden literature;
- commemorative awards of the Moscow Higher Military Command School.
The detainee faces from five to ten years in prison.
