SSU detains border guard who tried to provide FSB with information on protection of Ukraine’s northern borders
As a result of a special operation in Chernihiv region, the SSU Counterintelligence jointly with the internal security unit of the State Border Guard Service exposed another russian agent.
The spy is an inspector of Chernihiv border detachment.
The official had been recruited by an FSB officer before the full-scale invasion began.
After 24 February 2022, the enemy ‘activated’ its agent to conduct reconnaissance and sabotage against Ukraine.
The aggressor was primarily interested in combat orders and an action plan for engineering and technical equipment of the state border in Chernihiv oblast.
It was this classified information that the russian agent was supposed to find, photograph, and then pass on to his FSB ‘handler’ via the Telegram messenger.
Occupiers needed the intelligence to prepare and carry out a series of sabotage attacks in the border areas of northern Ukraine.
However, the SSU worked proactively - the traitor was timely exposed and detained on an attempt to pass restricted information to the aggressor.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Chernihiv region carried out the operation jointly with the Main Division for Internal and Personal Security ‘Center’ of the SBGS under the procedural supervision of Chernihiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
