SSU detains fsb resident setting up agent network in Ukraine

The SSU CI has carried out a multi-stage special operation to expose the fsb agent network in Kherson. As a result, the SSU has detained a resident of the russian special service who gets up to 10 informants of the region in touch.

According to the case, all of them were locals who stood up for the russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.

The agent network was tasked to pass the current intelligence on the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the frontline areas of Kherson region to russia.

Particularly, the informants sought to identify possible combat positions of MRL Grad and foreign M777 howitzers.

They were to pass all the collected data to a resident, who was to send it to his fsb supervisor.

The SSU officers timely exposed the agent network and detained its leader red-handed while trying to pass the information to the aggressor.

According to the investigation, the detained fsb agent was a local resident who had come to the attention of the russian special service in the early 2000s. Back then, he often appeared in russia on his own business.

Subsequently, he was contacted by an fsb officer and offered covert cooperation.

In order to be convincing in its intentions, the russian special service even issued its resident a so-called pass for unimpeded movement through russia.

Even before the all-out invasion, the malefactor returned to Ukraine and got a job with a private security firm in Kherson.

After 24 February 2022, he was contacted remotely by the fsb representative and assigned the main tasks in the war against Ukraine.

The SSU has seized the traitor's means of communication, particularly:

  • a gun
  • a catridge case
  • a russian ID

Given the collected evidence, the SSU has served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The offender is being held in custody. He is facing a life imprisonment. The operation is ongoing to bring to justice all members of the agent network, which he led.

The operation was conducted by the SSU office in Chernivtsi region under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office.
