SSU detains russian who scouted Ukrainian artillery positions on eastern front

In Slovyansk, the SSU has detained a russian agent who was collecting information on deployment and movement of combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donetsk region.

Primarily, the enemy was interested in data on the positions of Ukrainian artillery, which destroys occupiers’ command posts and ammunition depots.

The informant is a russian citizen who had a permit for temporary residence in Ukraine. After the start of the full-scale invasion, he approached russian special services through his personal connections.

Instructed by the occupiers, the agent conducted covert surveillance of Ukrainian positions near the front line. He passed intelligence with georeferenced photos and video footage of the locations.

He maintained contact with the occupiers through an acquaintance from russia, who cooperates with their special services. Both used an anonymous Telegram channel for communication.

The occupiers planned to use the obtained data for accurate missile strikes on Ukrainian Defence Forces. However, the SSU exposed, located and detained the enemy agent.

The detainee has been notified of suspicion of committing a crime; the court has decided to keep him in custody.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
