SSU detains enemy agent preparing missile attack on Ukrzaliznytsia facilities in northern Ukraine

The SSU Counterintelligence thwarted an attempt by russia to attack Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) strategic facilities in Chernihiv region.

As a result of a special operation, the SSU detained a russian agent was who was preparing a missile attack on the railway line connecting Ukraine’s northern and eastern regions. Another potential target was rolling stock maintenance platforms.

To fulfill the enemy assignment, the spy had to check the occupiers’ intelligence on the railway routes used for transporting the AFU military equipment.

To do this, the agent tracked the movement of echelons, their routes, directions and stops.

The traitor was instructed to pass the collected data with coordinates of the railway line and rolling stock maintenance locations to his russian handler.

He planned to confirm the information with photographs of the targets.

The invaders needed data to prepare air strikes on railway to disrupt the AFU logistics.

However, the SSU prevented the passing of intelligence having uncovered the agent in time and detaining him when he was performing an enemy task.

According to the investigation, the detainee is an employee of the local Ukrzaliznytsia unit, an ideological supporter of ruscism.

Last year, he became an active subscriber in russian Telegram channels and came to the attention of the occupiers.

During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU seized a mobile phone and a tablet used for communication with the aggressor in a messenger app.

SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Chernihiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
