SSU detains russian agent who spied on Ukrainian combat aviation in Dnipropetrovsk region

During counter-sabotage activities in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, the SSU Counterintelligence exposed another agent of the russian FSB.

The spy collected intelligence for the occupiers on types and number of Ukrainian combat aircrafts, their bases and flight directions.

He also passed coordinates of military enlistment offices to the invaders and tried to identify railway lines used to supply ammunition to the front.

For each completed assignment, the FSB’s asset received up to UAH 4,000 (USD 107) from his handler. The money was transferred through a crypto wallet.

The aggressor needed the intelligence in order to prepare a series of air strikes on the region, primarily to hit strategic targets.

The SSU Counterintelligence identified and detained the spy.

According to the investigation, the enemy agent is a local resident, recruited by an FSB officer in July 2022.

The man came to the enemy’s attention through a russian Telegram bot, to which he periodically sent photos of positions of Ukrainian troops.

Later, the traitor kept in touch with the aggressor via a messenger app. To conduct reconnaissance, he drove to the areas of interest, covertly monitored the targets and asked locals for information he needed.

During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU found a mobile phone and a tablet, which he used to communicate with the enemy special service.

The SSU has notified the detained agent of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).

The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment.

The SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region carried out the operational and investigative activities under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
