SSU detains enemy agent who spied on air defence locations in Cherkasy region

In Cherkasy, the SSU has apprehended another agent of russia’s federal security service. He was reconnoitering the permanent deployment points and combat positions of Ukrainian air defence units protecting the region’s airspace.

The enemy’s potential targets were anti-aircraft missile systems, radar stations and mobile groups of Ukrainian troops.

The occupiers were also interested in the locations of bases and security system of the National Guard units.

To obtain this intelligence, the FSB remotely recruited a 45-year-old unemployed resident of Cherkasy who was looking for ‘quick money’ on Telegram.

On the aggressor’s instructions, the agent drove around the region and covertly recorded locations of Ukrainian defenders. He also elicited the necessary information from his acquaintances during seemingly everyday conversations.

The asset put the data on Google maps to send it to his russian handler along with the photos.

The ruscists planned to use his information to prepare new missile and drone strikes on the region evading the air defences.

The SSU Counterintelligence uncovered the traitor at an early stage and detained him ‘red-handed’ when he was conducting reconnaissance near a military facility. Action was taken to protect the positions of Ukrainian units.

During the detention, a mobile phone with evidence of communication with the FSB was seized from the perpetrator.

SSU served him a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
