SSU detains russian agent who collected intelligence on Western arms supplies to Ukraine (video)
The SSU has prevented leakage of classified information on international military and technical cooperation between Ukraine and our Western partners.
As a result of the operation, the SSU detained a deep-cover russian agent, who was collecting information on purchase and supply of foreign weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.
The spy’s foremost interest was secret data on military equipment imported for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The occupiers planned to use the obtained information to carry out missile attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure used for transportation of foreign weapons.
In addition, the enemy intended to use this intelligence to attempt to undermine international agreements between Ukraine and international partners in the field of defence.
According to the investigation, the traitor is a resident of Kyiv who posed as a military expert. The investigation established that he had been recruited by russian special services to carry out reconnaissance and subversive activity in Kyiv region.
To collect confidential information, the agent used his personal connections, including in Ukraine’s military industrial complex. He disguised his ‘interest’ in foreign weapons as collecting analytical data for ‘expert’ publications in social networks.
During the search of the agent’s home, the SSU uncovered communication devices he used to pass information to his russian handler.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion of treason; the court has decided to keep him in custody.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Counterintelligence Department and investigators of the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
