SSU detains russian agent who passed intelligence on Ukrainian positions near Bakhmut and Avdiivka to enemy

The SSU Counterintelligence has exposed another member of the FSB’s extensive intelligence network in Donetsk region.

The spy collected information on deployment and movement of the Defence Forces near Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Toretsk.

Three of his accomplices had been detained by the SSU in December 2022.

The investigation established that the suspect had been driving near the frontline cities and covertly photographing positions of Ukrainian troops, marking the coordinates on electronic maps.

The agent passed the data to his handler from the russian-controlled ‘DNR’s ministry of state security’ in the temporarily occupied Horlivka.

The invaders planned to use the intelligence for missile and artillery strikes on positions of Ukrainian Defence Forces.

However, the SSU Counterintelligence timely exposed and detained the enemy accomplice, as well as documented his crimes.

During the detention, the suspect was in a hiding place, which he had set up in advance in his own household.

The aggressor’s informant is a 32-year-old resident of Toretsk and a close associate of one of the chiefs of the ‘DNR ministry of state security’ in occupied Horlivka.

The enemy agent used an anonymous electronic communication channel to contact the handler and transmitted intelligence as photos with detailed descriptions of targets.

During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found a cell phone hidden in the wall with evidence of the agent’s covert communication with the enemy.

The SSU notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The court has chosen custody as a measure of restraint.

The investigation is ongoing.

The SSU Office in Vinnytsia region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
