SSU detains russian mole in Ukrainian Armed Forces who intended to ‘leak’ directions of Ukraine’s counteroffensive to ruscists

The SSU Military Counterintelligence, with the assistance of the AFU’s leadership, has carried out a multi-stage special operation in Dnipropetrovsk oblast. As a result of joint activities, another agent of the main directorate of the general staff of russia’s armed forces (known as the ‘GRU’) has been exposed.

The spy is a resident of Enerhodar, who joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine before russia’s full-scale invasion and served in one of the garrisons in Dnipropetrovsk region.

According to the investigation, in late 2022 he was recruited remotely by a GRU officer.

On the aggressor’s instructions, the mole collected information on plans for Ukrainian troops to participate in combat operations at the front.

On the eve of the counteroffensive, the russian agent received an urgent task: to find out the date of start and main directions of Ukrainian counterattacks.

The traitor was also to pass intelligence to the occupies on routes of transporting foreign weapons and military equipment of the Defence Forces to the frontline.

Among other things, the spy tried to identify radio communication channels of Ukrainian combat units.

However, the SSU timely exposed the russian agent, documented his criminal actions and detained when he was carrying out one of the enemy assignments.

According to the investigation, at first the suspect communicated with the GRU through his mother, who remained in the temporarily occupied Enerhodar and was ‘noticed’ by the russian special service.

Later, the spy was put in direct contact with the GRU. Telegram messenger was used for communication.

Based on the collected evidence, the SSU notified the detainee of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).

The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Eastern Region.
