SSU detains fraudster posing as counterintelligence officer and ‘selling positions in SSU’

In Odesa region, a fraudster posing as an officer of the SSU has been uncovered.

The man introduced himself as a counterintelligence officer and for money offered ‘employment in one of the Service’s regional offices’.

However, after receiving a ‘payment’ from a ‘candidate’, he would cut off contact and disappear, looking for a new victim.

The SSU documented the suspect’s criminal actions and detained him after he got a ‘bribe’ from a military serviceman.

The crook had promised the man to ‘solve the issue’ of his transfer to the SSU.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator was a citizen of a neighbouring European country who specialized in financial fraud.

The offender had previously been detained by the National Police for stealing bank funds. A court in Kyiv is currently considering an indictment against him on several counts.

Based on the evidence, the detainee was served a notice of suspicion under Article 190.2 of the CCU (repeated fraud).

The investigation is underway. The suspect faces up to 3 years in prison.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
