SSU detains fraudster who posed as SSU officer and helped men evade conscription for money

The SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security jointly with the National Police prevented creation of another draft evasion scheme.

As a result of an operation, a fraudster posing as an SSU officer was detained in Vinnytsia. The impostor offered young men his ‘assistance’ in evading conscription for money.

He estimated such ‘services’ at USD 3,000 per client.

For this amount, the offender, posing as an SSU officer, demanded that an official of a military medical center transfer a mobilized person to inpatient treatment.

There, the evader was to be recognized as partially fit for military service. In this way, they wanted to avoid participation in the AFU’s military operations.

The SSU detained the suspect red-handed when he received the money for ‘solving the issue’ of a client’s hospitalization.

According to the investigation, the fraudster is a local resident who had previously been convicted.

During a search of his home, investigators found 60 rounds of ammunition for a Kalashnikov rifle.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion under Article 369-2.3 of the CCU (abuse of influence).

The decisions on declaring him suspect under Article 263 of the CCU (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) and choosing custody as a measure of restraint are pending.

The offender is facing up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Vinnytsia Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office.
