SSU detains another 4 military enlistment officers and heads of military medical commissions who got bribes from draft evaders

The SSU continues to eradicate large-scale corruption in military enlistment offices and military medical commissions.

As a result of operations in Kyiv, Odesa and Kharkiv region, the SSU apprehended 4 military officials who ‘helped’ men of call-up age to evade conscription and flee abroad.

For money, the officials offered persons liable for military service to evade mobilisation using counterfeit documents on their ‘medical unfitness’ for military service.

The cost of such ‘services’ reached USD 10,000 per person, depending on urgency and financial capabilities of the ‘clients’.

In Kyiv:

the head of the district military enlistment office and the head of one of Kyiv military medical commissions have been detained for selling fake medical certificates with ‘severe diagnoses’.

The evaders used the counterfeits to evade conscription and leave Ukraine.

In Kharkiv region:

The head of a district military enlistment office has been detained for receiving over UAH 11 mln (USD 287,000) from potential conscripts.

Three officials of a local hospital were involved in the scheme.

For bribes, they ‘found health problems’ in conscripts, which became a formal basis for removing them from the military register.

In Odesa:

The SSU cyber units have eliminated a corruption scheme organised by the secretary of a local military medical commission.

Together with a Kyiv lawyer and two accomplices, she sold fake documents on ‘unfitness’ for military service.

The group looked for ‘clients’ all over Ukraine and then registered them with an Odesa military enlistment office to ‘write them off’ from military service.

The commission secretary and her accomplices have been detained ‘red-handed’ and notified of suspicion. The court is to decide on a measure of restraint.

Investigations in the above described cases are ongoing.

The offenders are facing up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operations were carried out jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
