SSU detains another enemy informant who spied on AFU units defending Kharkiv
The SSU has foiled a new attempt by russia to obtain intelligence on Kharkiv’s defence. As a result of a special operation, an enemy informant spying on units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was detained.
The perpetrator is a former employee of a local unit of the disbanded internal troops. In April this year, the occupiers recruited him remotely as an ideological supporter of ruscism.
On the orders of the russian intelligence, the agent tried to identify coordinates and routes of mobile air defence squads defending Kharkiv.
He also tried to establish possible locations of the DIU Kraken special unit.
To do this, the enemy asset regularly walked around the city, covertly observing the locations of the Defence Forces.
The spy used a specially purchased high magnification monocular and a mini-video camera.
At home, he transferred the obtained data to Google maps and selected video files to report to the occupiers.
The ruscists needed the intelligence to prepare new missile and bomb attacks on Kharkiv.
The SSU detained the traitor in his home. The Service also took action to protect Ukrainian troops.
According to the investigation, the man came to the attention of russian intelligence because of his anti-Ukrainian comments in pro-kremlin Telegram channels.
During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU seized a mobile phone, a video camera, a monocular and data carriers with evidence of his crime.
SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement or location of the AFU, if they can be identified on the ground).
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 8 years of imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Kharkiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
