The SSU together with other law enforcement agencies identified and detained the perpetrator who made a series of bomb threats in Melitopol.

The offender used a mobile phone and dialed the police hotline to inform that he had installed ‘explosive devices’ across Melitopol and that the first bomb threat is the district police department.

The law enforcement inspected the premises and adjacent territories. No explosives were found.

Within hours, the SSU and the National Police identified the ‘anonymous terrorist’, who was a local, previously convicted of committing serious crimes in Ukraine, as well as a murder in Russia.

Criminal proceedings have been opened under the Article 259 (knowingly false information about a threat to public safety, destruction or damage to property) of the CCU. The investigators are to notify the detainee of suspicion. The court is to decide on the measure of restraint.

The investigators are verifying the individual’s involvement in other similar crimes in the region.

The SSU carried out the operation together with the National Police under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
