SSU detains family of traitors planning to blow up AFU trains in Kharkiv region

The SSU has foiled the enemy’s attempt to commit sabotage at strategic Ukrzaliznytsia facilities in Kharkiv oblast.

As a result of a special operation, the SSU detained a group of GRU agents who were reconnoitering routes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine military echelons on Lyman direction.

The perpetrators were collecting data on ‘vulnerable’ areas: railway bridges, overpasses and car tunnels under the tracks.

They also identified coordinates of relay cabinets and transformer substations of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways).

The agents were to pass the gathered information to their russian handler as geolocations on Google maps.

Using these, the invaders planned to carry out sabotage on the railway line during the movement of the AFU’s freight train.

In such a way, the occupiers hoped to disrupt the supply of Ukrainian weapons and ammunition to the frontline.

However, the SSU thwarted the aggressor’s plans: the group was uncovered at an early stage, the crime was documented and the enemy accomplices – detained ‘red-handed’.

According to the investigation, the perpetrators are a brother and sister who worked together in a municipal facility in Izium district.

In the summer of 2023, they came to the attention of an officer the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (‘the GRU’) through their anti-Ukrainian posts on pro-kremlin Telegram channels. The SSU has already identified their handler.

During the searches of the suspects’ homes, the SSU seized mobile phones, which they used to communicate with the GRU.

SSU investigators have served the detainees notices of suspicion under Articles 28.2 and 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law, by a group).

The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Kharkiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
