SSU detains arms dealer and uncovers weapon cache in Zaporizhzhia
The SSU continues intensive counter-subversive measures in the front-line areas of southern Ukraine. As a result of a special operation in Zaporizhzhia, the SSU detained an arms dealer who tried to illegally sell explosives.
During the arrest, the law enforcement found TNT in the possession of the suspect.
He secretly stored munitions at his home in the regional center. He sought out clients through personal connections, including in criminal circles.
The investigators are preparing a notice of suspicion; the court is to choose the type of detention.
In the course of further investigative and operational actions, the SSU established the location of a cache of weapons and ammunition.
Over 5 kg of TNT and plastic explosive, an RPG-22 anti-tank rocket launcher were among the seized items.
The cache could have been equipped to carry out sabotage in the region.
It was set up in an abandoned building on the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia. During the inspection, the law enforcement discovered, among other things:
- F-1, RGD-5 and RGN combat grenades;
- over 800 rounds of 7.62 mm caliber.
The seized items were sent for a forensic examination.
The investigation is ongoing to establish the source of weapons and bring to justice all those involved.
The SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region carried out the operation together with the National Police and under the procedural supervision of Shevchenkivskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
