SSU detains FSB informant in Kharkiv for attempt to pass Patriot’s positions to enemy

The SSU has foiled new attempts by russia to obtain up-to-date intelligence on Kharkiv’s defence. As a result of an operation, the SSU apprehended an FSB informant who was spying on Ukrainian troops.

The perpetrator tried to identify and pass to the invaders the coordinates of combat positions of Patriot air defense missile systems protecting the city.

The traitor also hunted for locations of fortifications and areas of large concentrations of the Defense Forces personnel.

In case of getting the geolocations, the occupiers planned to carry out air strikes with guided aerial bombs and missile weapons.

According to the investigation, the detained enemy informant is a local driver of a grocery store chain in Kharkiv region.

The agent drove around the city under the guise of transporting cargo in the company car and covertly recorded locations of Ukrainian defenders.

After reconnaissance raids, he marked potential targets on Google maps, prepared detailed descriptions and sent them to his russian handler via a messenger app.

The SSU identified the traitor at an early stage and detained him.

The SSU has now served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement or location of the AFU, if it is possible to identify them on the ground, with the purpose of providing such information to an aggressor state).

The suspect is in custody without the right to be released on bail and faces up to 12 years in prison.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
