SSU detains Kherson collaborator who swore allegiance to russia to torture Ukrainians
In Kherson, the SSU detained another collaborator who helped ruscists carry out mass repressions against local population during the occupation.
The traitor is a Kherson resident who, after the oblast was captured, voluntarily collaborated with russian invaders.
After signing ‘a russian citizen’s oath’, he was appointed a ‘junior inspector’ in a local prison, ‘isolation facility No 1’.
In this ‘position’, the ‘inspector’ escorted abducted Ukrainians to the cells of the occupation jail and participated in torturing them.
The investigation established that the perpetrator had beaten Ukrainian prisoners, taken their personal belongings and left them without food and water for lengthy periods.
Abusing the victims physically, the collaborator repeatedly threatened to kill them.
In this way, the ruscists were trying to intimidate local residents and break the morale of the resistance movement.
After Kherson’s liberation, the offender tried to lie low and evade justice. However, the SSU found and detained him.
During the search of the suspect’s apartment, the SSU found:
- an occupation ‘pass’ that allowed him to go freely through russian checkpoints;
- an ‘extract from the order’ on his appointment to a ‘position’ in the occupation authority;
- a ‘certificate’ of enrolment to the russian prison administration;
- an ‘oath’ of allegiance to the aggressor state and an application for russian citizenship signed by the collaborator.
Based on the evidence, the man has been served a notice of suspicion of collaboration (Article 111-1.7 of the CCU).
Court is to decide on custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect, who is facing up to 15 years in prison.
The stabilization efforts in Kherson oblast were carried out by the local SSU Office jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
