SSU detains FSB agent who spied on 3rd Assault Brigade and applied for a job at defence plant

In Kyiv, the SSU detained another FSB agent who was collecting intelligence on Ukraine’s Defence Forces and strategic infrastructure.

Primarily, the perpetrator tried to identify and pass on to the aggressor locations of reserve command posts of the 3rd Assault Brigade and the Staff of the AFU Ground Forces.

He also sent to the occupiers coordinates of key enterprises that provide electricity and heating to a big part of Kyiv.

According to the SSU’s cyber units, his ‘reports’ to the FSB included data on power substations and main power lines, as well as boiler houses of Kyivteploenergo.

The invaders needed this intelligence to prepare a series of targeted strikes on Ukraine’s military and critical infrastructure.

At the same time, on the enemy’s instructions, the man tried to get a job at a defence plant in Kyiv region. He prepared a CV and sent it to the enterprise’s HR department.

In case he had got the position, he would try to collect secret information on types and quantity of weapons produced at the facility.

The SSU identified the suspect, documented his criminal actions and apprehended him.

According to the investigation, the detainee is a 52-year-old resident of Kyiv, recruited remotely by an officer of the FSB’s moscow unit in autumn 2023.

Initially, the agent communicated with his handlers through one of the pro-kremlin Telegram channels. Later, they talked in an anonymous chat on a messenger app.

To identify locations for the enemy, the traitor walked the streets of Kyiv and its suburbs and covertly photographed ‘targets’.

For each completed assignment, money was transferred to the asset’s bank card.

During the searches, the suspect’s mobile phone with evidence of communication with the aggressor and bank cards were seized.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is currently in custody, facing life imprisonment.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
