SSU detains ex-official who was FSB agent and offered to join Ukraine’s eastern oblasts to russia’s rostov region
In Kyiv, the SSU Counterintelligence detained an FSB agent who carried out information subversions against Ukraine.
Previously, the man had worked at the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine, the Committee for State Material Reserve and the Ministry of Coal Industry.
After leaving the civil service in 2014, he began to position himself as a ‘political expert’ and author of publications praising the kremlin’s aggressive policy towards Ukraine.
Since then, the ex-official had been in direct contact with one of the heads of the FSB’s 5th Service, who coordinated his information and subversive activities against Ukraine.
The traitor also cooperated with the terrorist Pasichnyk, whom he gave his ‘expert’ recommendations on how to intensify repressions against Ukrainian patriots in the temporarily occupied Luhansk.
On social media, the enemy asset published posts suggesting ‘annexing’ the eastern oblasts of Ukraine to russia’s Rostov region.
The SSU Counterintelligence documented the suspect’s crimes and apprehended him in his apartment.
A comprehensive forensic psychological and linguistic examination confirmed that the documents and publications prepared by the agent at the FSB’s request are aimed against Ukraine’s state security.
During the searches of his home and car, the SSU seized computer equipment, mobile phones and documents confirming his subversive activities in russia’s favour. Investigators also found a ‘reward for cooperation’ from the aggressor state and banned communist and pro-kremlin symbols.
Based on the evidence, the detainee is suspected under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.1 (high treason);
- 161.1 (violation of equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, region, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds).
The court has chosen custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect, who faces up to 15 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
