SSU detains russian media fixer in Kyiv for helping enemy create fakes about war in Ukraine
The SSU systematically exposes the aggressor’s accomplices who harm Ukraine’s national security through their activities in the information space.
As a result of operational and investigative activities, the SSU detained in Kyiv a local resident who helped the enemy spread fakes on the socio-political situation in Ukraine.
To do this, the individual positioned himself as a ‘fixer’ and remotely cooperated with the editorial office of the pro-kremlin news agency Bel.ru located in Belgorod region, russia.
To russian ‘journalists’, he passed fictitious and distorted information about events in Ukraine, for example, on ‘aggravation of the internal situation’ in Kyiv after russian missile strikes on the city.
In addition, the man publicly supported russian occupiers’ actions and denied their crimes in Bucha, Irpen and Izium.
Bel.ru staff used the disinformation to prepare fake news about the war in Ukraine.
The ‘fixer’ also published his anti-Ukrainian narratives on his own social media pages, including those banned in Ukraine.
The SSU-initiated linguistic examination confirmed the suspect’s subversive activities against Ukraine.
During the searches, the SSU found computer equipment and a mobile phone with evidence of criminal actions.
SSU investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion under Article 436-2.2 of the CCU (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants). The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region exposed the offender under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
