SSU detains organizers of russian ‘troll factory’ in Kyiv
The SSU has neutralized a pro-kremlin ‘troll factory’ in Kyiv.
In social networks, the group spread calls in support of the armed aggression against Ukraine and justified russia’s war crimes.
The SSU established that the Internet agents had used the Telegram channel of a moscow propagandist Yuriy Podolyaka - a russian blogger with over 2.7 mln subscribers - as a primary source.
The ‘trolls’ disseminated his publications through reposts or as their ‘own’ publications in social media.
According to the investigation, the subversive activity was organized by two locals in Kyiv region.
Computer equipment for information ops and communication with russian handlers was installed in their own homes in Kyiv and Bila Tserkva.
For massive ‘coverage’, the group tried to attract new members to the kremlin propaganda cell.
To expand the ‘audience’, they used hundreds of bot accounts, on behalf of which they spread and commented on posts with russian propaganda.
During the searches at the suspects’ homes, the SSU found mobile phones and computers with evidence of the crime.
Based on the collected evidence, the SSU notified the two detainees of suspicion under the Article 436-2 of the CCU (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
Court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspects.
The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
