SSU detains ‘political expert’ who wrote paid articles for russian online media
In Poltava, the SSU detained an agent of russia’s foreign intelligence service who carried out information sabotage against Ukraine.
On the enemy’s instructions, the ‘author’ prepared more than 60 paid publications for the russian online publications one homeland and strategic culture foundation.
These information resources act as the kremlin’s international mouthpieces to spread propaganda in Western countries.
The SSU established that the suspect had prepared a series of publications in which he ‘whitewashed’ russia’s air attacks on the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine.
The articles covered the enemy strikes on a shopping centre in Kremenchuk, an apartment building in Dnipro and massive attacks on Kyiv’v energy facilities.
In the publications, the russian agent tried to discredit the command and soldiers of the Ukrainian army in the eyes of our foreign partners.
For disguise, the perpetrator used the pseudonyms Andrii Uvarov, Ihor Loginov and Petro Zharkov.
For information and subversive activities against Ukraine, the asset received almost UAH 250,000 (USD 6,400) from his russian handlers.
The investigation revealed that the enemy accomplice was a resident of Poltava, an ideological supporter of ruscism and russia’s armed aggression.
The traitor also founded and headed a pro-kremlin NGO in Poltava - the russian community of Poltava region.
This brought him to the attention of russian intelligence, which recruited him remotely.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason);
- 436-2.2, 436-2.3 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The court chose custody a measure of restraint for the suspect, who faces life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Poltava region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
