SSU detains IS member who had been hiding from justice for 7 years

In Kyiv, the SSU apprehended a member of the international terrorist organization Islamic State, who was wanted by Interpol.

The individual is a citizen of one of the Central Asian countries who had illegally arrived in Ukraine before the full-scale invasion, using a foreign passport of a fictitious person.

Before that, the member of the terrorist organization had spent a long time in the Middle East and was involved in transporting IS fighters to Syria.

After arriving in Ukraine, he tried to hide from law enforcement, constantly changing mobile phone numbers and renting apartments in different cities of our country.

Later, he tried to set up an illegal channel in Kyiv for legalization of immigrants from countries with a high terrorist risk.

The SSU established his location and detained him at his temporary home in the capital.

The detainee is now in custody in accordance with the extradition arrest procedure.

The decision on his extradition to the country of origin, which placed him on the international wanted list in 2017, is currently pending.
