SBU detains members of NGO funded by people’s deputies

In Kyiv region, the SBU officers detained members of NGO funded by people’s deputies. The organization took part in raids, rallies and protests.

Allegedly, the organization is controlled by the people’s deputy and a co-chairman of Ukrainian political party.

Under the guise of a sports association, the party leadership commissioned the members of the NGO to take part in raids, rallies and protests. In addition, the supervision and funding was exercised by another people’s deputy from the same party, who owns a local security company.

The SBU operatives established that the NGO members also controlled drug trafficking in the region, stored explosives, weapons and ammunition. The SBU documented the sale of two batches of amphetamine.

During the searches of the residences of the main suspects, law enforcement officers seized a hand grenade launcher, a RGO hand grenade with a fuse, 7 improvised explosive devices, a 9mm Schmeiser pistol, rubber bullets, 70 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, packs of drugs, SIM cards, telephones and computer equipment.

The SBU detained two active NGO members at the places of residence. Three more “activists” hiding from the pre-trial investigation are wanted.

The investigation is ongoing. The issue of serving the offenders a notice of suspicion is being resolved.

The operation was conducted by the Main National Police Department in Kyiv Region under supervision of Kyiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
