Odesa: SSU detains former militant of ‘Sparta’ battalion of ‘DNR’ terrorist organization
As a result of counter-sabotage efforts in Odesa region, the SSU identified a former militant of russian occupation forces.
The offender is a local resident, who in 2015 joined the ‘Sparta’ battalion of the ‘DNR’ terrorist organization and took part in warfare against the ATO forces in eastern Ukraine.
As a member of the enemy troops, he fired at defensive positions of Ukrainian troops, fought near Donetsk airport, guarded checkpoints and took a sniper’s ‘course’.
After he was wounded, the militant left the battalion and secretly went to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine and later settled down in Odesa region.
For a long time, the suspect was hiding from justice and continued to maintain contacts with his accomplices among terrorists.
As a result of investigative and operational activities, the SSU found and detained him.
During the searches at the offender’s home, the SSU found computer equipment, a mobile phone and SIM cards with evidence of his unlawful activity.
SSU investigators served the detained militant a notice of suspicion under the Article 258-3.1 of the CCU (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization).
The court chose custody as a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Odesa Office carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
