SSU detains enemy agent who prepared to blow up railway in Cherkasy oblast

As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Cherkasy region, the SSU detained another russia’s agent who collected information on deployment of Ukraine’s Defence Forces and planned to blow up railway during movement of military equipment.

The offender was looking for TNT to carry out the act of sabotage.

For this purpose, he collected data on routes of movement of military equipment supplied by Ukraine’s Western partners.

The spy also provided occupiers with intelligence on locations of Ukrainian air defence systems in the region.

For passing these data, the enemy asset received from USD 100 to 200 to his several bank cards.

The SSU apprehended the suspect red-handed during another attempt to transmit information to his russian handler.

Having detained the enemy accomplice, the SSU prevented sabotage against the Defence Forces and blocked passing of classified information to the aggressor.

According to the investigation, the traitor is a resident of Cherkasy, who had previously served a sentence for committing a serious crime.

He maintained communication with the occupiers through an anonymous chat, where posted photos of Ukrainian targets with georeferencing and marks on electronic maps.

During the search of his home, the SSU found a mobile phone with evidence of contacts with the aggressor and bank cards with money transferred from russia.

SSU investigators have notified the detained individual of suspicion.

The court has chosen custody without bail as a measure of restraint for the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing. The offender is facing up to 12 years in prison.

The SSU Office in Cherkasy region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
