SSU detains enemy informant preparing new russian strikes in Kharkiv region

The SSU’s cyber units have prevented new russian attacks on defence lines and Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) facilities in Kharkiv oblast. Ruscists intended to target newly built fortifications and logistical routes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

To guide the weapons at the targets, the occupiers engaged their informant, a local resident working for russian intelligence.

She was to identify and mark on Google maps the geolocations of minefields, long-term defensive points, as well as systems of trenches and dugouts.

The agent also tried to monitor the railway tracks used by the AFU military echelons, especially those with heavy armoured vehicles and artillery.

Using her coordinates, the aggressor planned to carry out air attacks with cruise missiles and guided aerial bombs.

If they hit the targets, the occupiers hoped to weaken Kharkiv’s defences and destroy the railway transporting personnel, weapons and ammunition to the AFU at the frontline.

After the enemy strike, the woman was supposed to report to the russian service on the accuracy of the hits and receive instructions for extraction to russia.

However, the SSU’s cyber units timely identified the agent, disrupted the enemy plans and thwarted the traitor’s escape.

Action was taken to secure the bases and movement of Ukrainian troops.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator worked for the occupiers through a ‘liaison’ – her brother from Donetsk, a militant of the russian occupation grouping on the eastern front.

To record and pass the geolocations, the informant walked to the target area, and, after returning home, marked the sites on electronic maps and added descriptions.

Communication was carried out via an anonymous chat in a messenger app.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on movement, transfer or location of the AFU, if they can be identified in the area).

The suspect is in custody and faces up to 8 years in prison.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Kharkiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
