SSU detains vocational school teacher who worked for ruscists as forward observer in Zaporizhzhia oblast
In Zaporizhzhia frontline area, the SSU Counterintelligence has apprehended another informant of russian intelligence agencies.
The traitor is a computer science teacher of a local vocational technical school, whom the enemy recruited remotely in mid-July 2023.
On the aggressor’s instructions, the man covertly collected intelligence on locations and movement of Ukrainian Defence Forces in the region.
To do this, the spy set up an ‘observation post’ at his own dacha, located in a garden community close to the southern front.
Using binoculars and other optics, he tried to identify advanced positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The enemy informant also cycled around neighbouring garden co-operatives and surrounding area and recorded movement of Ukrainian military equipment.
Using a messenger app, he sent text messages with coordinates of the Defence Forces’ locations to a contact from a russian special service.
Occupiers needed the data to strike Ukrainian troops with S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missiles and other weapons.
However, the SSU was proactive and detained the informant when he was trying to pass intelligence to russians.
During a search at the suspect’s home, the SSU found:
- a mobile phone and a laptop with evidence of the individual’s communication with the russian intelligence service;
- four signal pistols converted into combat pistols;
- three walkie-talkies;
- optical devices for monitoring remote objects.
Based on the evidence, the SSU served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on movement, transfer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody, facing up to 12 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
