SSU detains traitor who helped ruscists capture and occupy Vovchansk

The SSU continues to carry out stabilization measures in the de-occupied territories of Kharkiv region. In Vovchansk, the SSU detained a local resident wanted for treason.

According to the investigation, the 45-year-old man, known in criminal circles as Chizh, defected to the enemy when russia started its full-scale invasion and helped russians carry out sabotage against Ukraine.

In March, he organized an illegal collection of signatures to dismiss the current mayor of Vovchansk and intended to take his position. The person in question also gave russians the names and addresses of Ukrainian law enforcement officers living in the city.

The traitor provided the occupiers with fuel, food, construction material, etc. With his assistance, russian invaders looted a military unit of the National Guard of Ukraine, local gas stations and warehouses of Vovchansk meat processing plant.

In addition, Chizh, together with russian occupation authorities, personally unlawfully raised russian state flag in the city center.

Back in May, SSU investigators collected enough evidence to notify the enemy’s accomplice of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU); the traitor was declared wanted.

After the liberation of Vovchansk, the SSU located and detained the suspect. Court has ruled to keep him in custody.

Chizh faces 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The SSU Office in Kharkiv region carried out the operation together with the National Police under the supervision of Kharkiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
