SSU detains traitor who guarded russia’s occupation prison in Kherson
The SSU jointly with the SBI and the National Police have exposed another traitor who voluntarily joined russian punitive units during the temporary occupation of the right-bank Kherson oblast.
The collaborator is a former employee of Dariivka Correctional Colony No 10, who, after Kherson was captured, defected to the invaders and offered to join russian prison guards.
He wrote an ‘application’ addressed to the head of the so-called ‘penitentiary service directorate in Kherson region’ Yevhen Sobolev.
In June 2022, the traitor was appointed a ‘junior inspector of a supervision group’ in the then seized Northern Correctional Colony No 90.
In this ‘position’, he was responsible for guarding the cells and the perimeter of the prison, where the ruscists imprisoned members of the resistance movement.
The ‘guard’ also took part in the deportation of captives to the jails in russia.
After Kherson’s liberation, the man fled to Vinnytsia region, hoping to hide and evade justice.
However, the SSU found the suspect and detained him at his temporary home.
The detainee has been served a notice of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law);
- 111-1.7 (voluntary holding of a position by a citizen of Ukraine in illegal judicial or law enforcement bodies established in the temporarily occupied territory).
The court is to decide on custody as a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is facing life imprisonment.
The SSU Office in Kherson region exposed the offender jointly with the State Bureau of Investigation and the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
