SSU detains traitor who passed intelligence on video surveillance system in Zhytomyr to ‘Wagner’ group
As a result of a special operation in Zhytomyr oblast, the SSU Counterintelligence detained another russian agent.
The enemy accomplice is a former deputy commander of a Ukrainian military unit, who retired in the early 1990s.
The investigation established that in July 2022 the reconnaissance unit of the russian military group Wagner had engaged him in covert cooperation.
The enemy recruited the man remotely – through the banned social network Vkontakte, which the suspect actively used.
Following the aggressor’s instructions, the agent collected intelligence on movement of the AFU’s units and was ‘interested’ in personal data of the current command staff of Ukrainian troops in the region.
The traitor also recorded coordinates of street video surveillance systems located near government and law enforcement buildings.
The enemy needed such data to plan and carry out acts of sabotage in the city.
The agent passed the information to the Wagner group through pre-arranged electronic communication channels in the form of photographs of maps with markings.
The SSU Counterintelligence documented the suspect’s criminal actions and detained him on the eve of his attempt to flee abroad.
During the search of the traitor’s home, the SSU found a laptop, a mobile phone and maps, which he used in his reconnaissance activities.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified the detained agent of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).
The court chose custody as a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Zhytomyr region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
